Portugal chose a Finnish innovation platform: Demola to partner in a national investment programme

On February 16, 2018 Demola signed a co-operation agreement with GoPortugal program, which is the strategic investment programme of the innovation ministry of Portugal. Thus, Portugal and Demola Global agreed upon a strategic partnership in reforming the innovation ecosystem. With the agreement Demola expands to several Portuguese cities and academic institutions within the next two years.

The GoPortugal co-operation agreement was signed by 11 internationally acclaimed actors such as Demola, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Texas, Austin (UT Austin) and German Fraunhofer institute.

”Demola has become a significant actor in the international innovation field. The aim of Portugal’s government to integrate Demola activity as a part of the national ecosystem, indicates strong trust towards Finnish innovation competence. We will invest in Portugal and expand our activity with academic institutions from the current one local Demola to a national platform of several cities”, states Ville Kairamo, the CEO of Demola.

Demola is a model developed in Finland, in which academic students along with business staff carry out fast co-creation projects following open innovation rules. Demola is integrated in university curricula and business co-operation in 58 academic institutions in 15 countries. The co-creation services of Demola are used by over 600 companies yearly. In Finland Demola operates in Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu and Rovaniemi.
